The United States Practical Shooting Association is a non-profit membership association. Most of the more than 15,000 individual members belong to and regularly compete at one of the nearly 400 affiliated clubs and sections (groups of clubs banded together for mutual benefit) located across the United States.

USPSA is affiliated with the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), which is comprised of organizations in approximately 67 nations. USPSA is the American region of IPSC.
For 2008, USPSA now has its own distinct rulebook separate from the IPSC one.

Porter County Poppers is a member of the Indiana Section of USPSA.  The Indiana Section is made up of eight clubs across the state.

USPSA matches offer fast action over varied courses of fire, with several equipment divisions to allow almost any medium or high power centerfire pistol to compete.  In certain matches, there are also long gun stages and events for both centerfire rifles and shotguns.
There are classes for shooters of all experience levels from the newest of newbies to master-level experts.
Courses may range from six to 36 rounds expended, with speed, accuracy, and power all factoring into the equation.  Many include movement by the shooter over the course, with barricades, ports, and other setup props to vary the action.
Someone wishing to try USPSA action pistol needs just a few things to get started- a centerfire handgun of .38/9mm caliber or greater, at least three magazines (four is much better) or speedloaders and carriers for same, a safe holster, and about 100-150 rounds of ammunition (for regular club-level matches).
No membership or special training is needed.  What we do recommend, though, is to come a bit early and let us know that you're new.  We'll walk you through the whole thing.

Our USPSA Matches are on the first Sundays of every month from April to November.
We set up at 12:30pm on the Saturday before the match.  Setup builders who put in at least two hours of work may have their match fee waived if they wish.
Setup people and hardship cases may also shoot at the end of setup on Saturday late afternoon.
Saturday shooters may also shoot again on Sunday, at full fee, and with scores not being registered.
If you'd like to help out, just show up.
For non-setup Saturday shooting permission, ask Bill

A note about classifier stages:
For 2009, we're going to put at least six into a special all-classifer match in August, and then have another classifer stage each in April and October to fill out.
This gives us more room for better field courses the rest of the months!
