Welcome to the NPCCC Steel Plate Shootout page

On the THIRD Saturday of every month year-round.
Win a gun! April through September, 2008, each paid match fee gets you an entry into our drawing to be held at the September 20th, 2008 match!  See below for more details.
Matches will start at 9:00 am local time, which is also "Chicago time",
(except  for December, January, and February, which start at 10:00am.)
The Steel Plate Shootout has four or five courses of fire, different every month, and varying in size.  Each stage will usually be shot twice.
Some of the courses look much like an all-steel USPSA match.
For 2008, we're going with the USPSA rule book.
The equipment used should be appropriate for your division.
Bring at least 150 rounds of ammunition and three magazines or speed loaders (six is better), plus appropriate magazine or loader carriers.
The match is shot from the holster.
New shooters or shooters with special challenges may elect to start from a low-ready position.
Hope to see you all at the next match!

Also this year with every paid admission you will receive an entry for a chance to win a handgun of your choice: Springfield XD, Smith & Wesson M&P or a Ruger SR9 in 9mm or .40 cal. The drawing will be held at our big match on September 20th, the “2nd Annual Bang & Clang”. The more matches you shoot the more chances you have to win. Winner need not be present, but if winner is present at our September 20th match they will also receive a bonus of a 1000 rounds of ammo. Come on out & give it a “shot”!

A note to new shooters and our guests visiting for NPCCC for the first time-

If you have never participated in a pistol shooting match, the Steel Plate Challenge is the ideal "first match" for you.  There is little or no movement around the course required.  The setups are all in sight and easy to understand.

Also, if you are new to shooting competitions or are unfamiliar with matches and range rules in general, we ask that you arrive early to spend a few minutes with a veteran instructor to show you the basics and explain the range rules.
The most important of the range rules is that North Porter is a "cold range" on match days.  This means there is NO handling of firearms anywhere on the property except for the specified safety area table, or when the shooter is actually on the firing line and is instructed by the range officer to handle the gun.
Please do not arrive with a loaded gun, or carrying one, or, if you do because you are legally carrying, please go immediately to the Safe Area yellow table and unload the gun before signing up or anything else.
Incidentally, this is the only time ammunition is permitted in the Safe Area.
During cold range times, your gun should always be holstered or cased, magazine well and all chambers empty, except when on the firing line and you are instructed to load by the range officer.
Thanks for your consideration of these basic safety rules.
